imbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) remains at the forefront of promoting human rights accountability and fostering sustainable peace across Zimbabwe. Through a combination of rigorous research, community engagement, and strategic advocacy, ZPP works to amplify the voices of citizens, safeguard freedoms, and strengthen democratic processes.
A cornerstone of ZPP’s work is human rights monitoring and documentation work, often presented through monthly human rights monitoring reports, which provide timely documentation of violations including harassment, arbitrary arrests, and attacks on human rights defenders. These reports not only inform policymakers and civil society but also serve as critical tools for advocacy to strengthen freedom of expression and protect independent media.
ZPP’s engagements at forums such as the Southern Africa Media Summit 2025 and the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists Congress have reinforced such efforts, fostering collaborations with regional media networks, legal experts, and human rights organizations to safeguard journalists and promote digital and civic freedoms. ZPP has also made significant strides in partnering with independent commissions such as the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC), and the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission (ZICC). Through these engagements, ZPP works to strengthen accountability, enhance transparency, and ensure that citizens have greater access to mechanisms that protect their rights. At the community level, ZPP’s peacebuilding initiatives aim to address social injustices and strengthen cohesion. Notably, research on community-level dialogue in Chiredzi has highlighted how inclusive, locally led conversations can prevent early child marriages, resolve conflicts, and restore trust within communities. By working closely with local leaders, citizens, and community champions, ZPP ensures that interventions are participatory, context-sensitive, and impactful.
ZPP also actively advances women, peace, and security, commemorating UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and conducting research on violence against women in politics. These initiatives seek to challenge structural barriers, promote women’s leadership, and foster a gender-transformative approach to peacebuilding. Through these multifaceted strategies, ZPP demonstrates that human rights, inclusive governance, and community-led action are interlinked. Collaboration remains key, from civil society partners to media institutions, to scale impact and drive accountability.
